01/07/12 - Ciao Giulio !

The fate decided you let this life riding your favourite bike. But rather not due to an accident: in the same way you have seen leaving this world your very friend Diego Bosis.

Why a sound heart suddenly stops? None doctor is still able to explain. Your work, your 360 degrees care in Trials had no equals and probably never will have. You were surprising discovering that sometimes I needed to have a break. I needed to take my mind off Trials for a while. You did not understand, you , that lived for Trials. Rider, organizer, journalist, photo reporter, chairman for Trials in Italian Federation, member of the CTR inside the FIM.

You has always been my point of reference. Many times I found comfort in your words. They gave me the strength for not giving up, when as organiser of Trials events I had to face the strong opposition of environmentalists and/or town hill’s authorities not willing to cooperate. You have never give up!” If you have a matter, talk to us about it, we’ll try to work out.

Even as rider, we shared important competitions like the Scottish in 2000, or the Five Days of Verdon in 2007 or the Two Days of Ventoux in last October. You have never saved yourself! You had a true and genuine passion , the one is now on the decline among the new generations. Or simply new generations feel often the need to take a break.

In this last week, we talked a lot. In Andorra you told me about your project to split Trials in two. Your old absolutist belief to return to the no-stop was substituted by a possible Extreme-Trial, in which at riders would be permitted to move backward, too. The no-stop rule would be fitted in normal Trials: an important issue on which to re-start. Of course, your ideas that collimated with Thierry Michaud’s ones were difficult to carry on inside the CTR, because the opposition was always been too strong. Last Thursday I found you very annoyed due to the FIM ban in putting some words to remember Bosis on the bibs for the GP of Italy. You asked me to write something on this absurd behaviour. After I published the news, you emailed me, “bravo Mario”. I thought you found some revenge in what I wrote.

Organisers did not stop the second round of the “Assoluti d’Italia”. They did it remember your will. Different decision was taken in other sport, as soccer, when all the matches were cancelled after a letal heart attack hit a player. But probably you wouldn’t do this. You’d want to be REMBERED. And of course your memory will be in us for ever.

Il destino ha voluto che tu ci lasciassi cosi’, in sella alla tua moto preferita. Ma non per un incidente, nello stesso modo che avevi visto “partire” il tuo grande amico Diego Bosis.

Perche’ un cuore sano tutto d’un colpo si ferma? Nessun medico e’ tuttora in grado di darci delle spiegazioni. Il tuo lavoro, il tuo impegno a 360 gradi nel Trial non ha eguali e forse non ne avra’ mai. Ti stupivi se io ogni tanto dovevo “staccare”. Se io avevo bisogno di passare una domenica distraendomi con qualcos’altro. Non capivi. Tu che hai sempre fatto del Trial la tua vita. Pilota, organizzatore, giornalista, fotografo, responsabile in Federazione, membro di Giuria Internazionale, membro della CTR, la Commissione Trial della FIM

Per me sei stato sempre un punto di riferimento. Le tue parole, la tua fiducia, in piu’ di un’occasione mi hanno dato il conforto che cercavo e la forza di non mollare, quando, come organizzatore, ho dovuto affrontare le solite realta’ di opposizioni ambientalistiche e/o comuni poco disponibili. Tu non mollavi mai! “Se hai un problema, parlacene, cerchiamo di risolverlo!", mi dicevi.

Anche come pilota , abbiamo condiviso gare importanti, tipo la Sei Giorni di Scozia nel 2000, o la Cinque giorni del Verdon nel 2007 e la Due Giorni del Ventoux nello scorso ottobre. Non ti sei mai risparmiato. La tua passione era quella vera, genuina, quella che mi sembra ora sul viale del tramonto, perche’ tra i giovani non e’ stata tramandata. O magari anche loro devono spesso e volentieri “staccare”…

In quest’ultima settimana avevamo parlato molto. Ad Andorra mi avevi fatto partecipe del tuo progetto di sdoppiare il Trial. Quella tua convinzione assolutista del “no stop” a tutti i costi era stata messa da parte a favore di un possibile Extreme-Trial che avrebbe contemplato anche la possibilità di arretrare. Rimaneva solo in auge per un altro tipo di Trial , dal quale si sarebbe dovuto ripartire. Sicuramente le tue idee che collimavano con quelle di Thierry Michaud era difficile poterle portare avanti nella Federazione Internazionale, dove il tuo lavoro avresti voluto potesse dare dei risultati concreti, ma dove purtroppo l’opposizione ai tuoi progetti aveva finora avuto il sopravvento. Ti ho sentito molto contrariato giovedi’ scorso, quando mi hai telefonato per comunicarmi la triste notizia del veto della FIM sulla scritta a favore di Bosis al mondiale in Italia. Ti sembrava assurdo e volevi che tutto il mondo lo sapesse. Quel “bravo Mario”, che mi hai scritto in replica a quanto avevo pubblicato, mi ha fatto intendere che un po’ di giustizia le mie parole ti avevano dato.

Adesso sono molto combattuto se partire per Castellinaldo e seguire la seconda prova degli Assoluti d’Italia od osservare una giornata di SILENZIO. Nel calcio era stato fatto cosi’ ,quando era morto un calciatore per infarto, ma non avevo condiviso la decisione. Forse neanche tu lo vorresti: lo sport non si deve fermare, ma ti deve RICORDARE. Il tuo ricordo sara’ sempre con NOI.

30/06/12 - Giulio Mauri died !

Today while he was competing in a vintage Trial at Vallelunga in a very hot day, he had a fatal heart attack. Having shared with him many events as photojournalist and rider, I am speechless at the moment, sorry.

Giulio Mauri e' mancato!

Oggi mentre stava gareggiando nelle Moto d'Epoca a Vallelunga in una giornata molto calda, ha avuto un infarto che gli e' stato fatale. Avendo condiviso con lui tantissimi momenti, sia come giornalista, sia come pilota, scusatemi ma sono molto addolorato e senza parole.

Nella foto che gli ho scattato domenica scorsa in Andorra, sta scambiando opinioni con Michaud.
