03/03/20 - In Domain of Château Lastours Vintage Trials shines -

Fifth edition of the Lastours Trial Classic promoted with flying colors. A vintage Trials traced in the middle of the vineyards of the Domaine de Château Lastours, on the hills near Narbonne, in south-western France. A loop on cobblestone and dirt paths in which 12 zones have been inserted to be repeated twice: each with 4 different levels inside: from easy yellow, to green, to blue, to red.

About 160 competitors, including Italians, Spaniards (despite the coincidence with a vintage race in Talamanca), Belgians and Germans. The race starts at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. There is no stress of the time: everyone manages as he wishes.

No queue for the intelligent choice of an "eight" loop course: two laps in which six sections were located, each of them returning to the start. Upon delivery of the card, each competitor was directed to one lap or the other depending on the contingent crowding. It could have happened that we started from zone 1 or from zone 7. On the second day two sections were tightened, but the general level was excellent. Zones traced by expert hands: long with never dangerous obstacles.

My personal experience, in which I tried the “green category” after winning the “yellow” last year, again with my trusty Fantic 200, was fabulous. I found myself at the end of the first lap on Saturday with 11 cleans on as many sections. Then a distraction in a part of the section 6 (my 12th) considered carelessly easy, cost me a "2" which stained my spotless card. The cramps in the second half of the second lap made me lose another 4 points.

Same scene on Sunday with a first lap at 2 and a second at 4. The final results is merciless: it puts me in a modest 13th place, but for my problems with coxarthrosis in the right hip that prevented me from training well and also for the whole race forced me to find a tree to kick off the Fantic standing up or use the left leg for the kick off operation, I can be more than satisfied. After all, there was no section that I did not clean at least once!

An excellent environment with serene and kind riders: a positive dive into the past, where sportiness and courtesy prevailed over everything.

The only change I would suggest would be to consider two different competitions; one on Saturday and one on Sunday. There would be more rounds valid for the championship. Also the possibility of including riders who would only be available on one of the two days, due to personal commitments. Furthermore, with vintage motorcycles there would be less risk of throwing away the whole race if there was a mechanical problem in one of the two days.

This event is part of a circuit that celebrates its second year: the Trial Vintage Trophy, organized by Thierry Aubert which includes four other events:

April 11th & 12th : Lançon Trial Classic - Lançon de Pce - "MC Toulon"

May 9th & 10th: 2D Jura Trial Classic - Villards d’Héria "MC du Risoux"

9 & 10 Maggio : 2D Jura Trial Classic – Villards d’Héria “MC du Risoux”

4 & 5 Luglio : Boade Trial Classic – Senez – “MC la Moulière”

26 & 27 Settembre : Indre Rétro Trial Classic – La Châtre – TC de la Châtre
