13/07/25 - MARCELLI, ABELLAN AND GELABERT TOPPED PODIUM IN USA SECOND DAY

Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa) produced the performance of his career to claim a first-ever overall day win as the TrialGP of USA – round six of the 2025 Hertz FIM Trial World Championship – concluded with another dramatic day at LeGrand Reynolds Horseman’s Area in Exeter, Rhode Island, where Berta Abellan (Scorpa) tightened her grip on TrialGP Women and Miquel Gelabert (Honda) fought back after his double disappointment yesterday in Trial2.

Coming in his sixth season in the premier men’s class, Marcelli’s sensational victory was at least partly at the expense of his team-mate and defending champion Toni Bou who, after missing out on the overall day win for just the second time in twelve starts this season, must now wait until the final round – the TrialGP of Great Britain – in early September before the destination of the TrialGP title is decided.

With a seventy-nine-point advantage over second-placed Jaime Busto (GASGAS) and a maximum of eighty-two points up for grabs at each round, Bou remains firmly in the driving seat to take his nineteenth consecutive title, but he now faces an eight-week wait before he can attempt to put the finishing touches to his season.

Fresh from his dominant double win yesterday, the thirty-eight-year-old Spanish superstar got his day off to a great start when he took victory in the opening race. With the majority of hazards plotted on a wooded, boulder-strewn hillside, Bou picked up a maximum on the towering rock steps of section three, but so did everyone else apart from Marcelli who skipped through for a single dab to take an early lead.

Bou wasted little time in re-establishing control and even a late five on section ten could not stop him from claiming victory on fourteen, although the winning margin over his twenty-five-year-old compatriot was just a single mark. Busto was third on twenty-four with Jorge Casales (Honda) taking fourth on thirty-two, one clear of Jack Peace (Sherco).

With conditions remaining hot and humid, but the ground slightly drier than the previous day, Marcelli then rewrote the formbook in the second race with his total of eight easily good enough to beat Busto into second on fourteen with Bou ending the race on a score of twenty.

“I’m over the moon,” said Marcelli. “Finally, finally I’ve won and I’m super-happy. I was riding good yesterday, but I was making mistakes and I knew I could do better and today I did do better.”

Canales, clearly enjoying his first taste of top-flight action this season, secured another fine fourth on twenty-five, four ahead of veteran Italian Matteo Grattarola (Beta).

With the Power Section once again plotted over the rocks and logs that comprised the man-made final hazard, Busto picked up the extra point on offer after going fastest for the third time this season.

A five-time silver medallist, Abellan’s double TrialGP Women win on Saturday moved her closer to that elusive title and on Sunday she remained in command.

The twenty-five-year-old threw down a challenge to her main title rival Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) with her first race total of just six placing her ten marks clear of the Italian teenager who in turn was only a single mark ahead of Denisa Pechackova (TRRS) from the Czech Republic.

British riders Alice Minta (Beta) and Kaytlyn Adshead (Sherco) have battled each other all season and on this occasion it was Minta who held the advantage to take fourth on nineteen, five ahead of Adshead.

The second race was much closer, but it was still Abellan who mounted the top step of the podium at the end of the day with her final score of seven putting her three ahead of a tie-break for second won by Pechackova from Rabino. Fourth-placed Minta, on a total of fifteen, got the better of Adshead by a single mark.

“It was almost a perfect weekend for me,” said Abellan, “and I hope to do the same [at the final round] in Great Britain as well. I’m so happy with today’s race, with the weekend and with the feeling I have on the bike.”

Rabino signed off by taking the bonus point on offer in the Power Section, but Abellan now leads by thirty-two with just one round remaining and Pechackova has leap-frogged Alessia Bacchetta (GASGAS) and Adshead up to third in the standings.

Technical issues proved to be extremely costly for Gelabert on Saturday when he failed to score a single point on the RTL Electric model, but like a true professional he put his troubles behind him and took control of the Trial2 class on Sunday.

While his no-score has put him on the back foot in the title stakes, it didn’t stop him taking the fight to championship leader Harry Hemingway (Beta) and the pair – together with the British rider’s younger brother, George – formed a three-rider breakaway in the opening race.

A maximum on section six by Gelabert handed seventeen-year-old George the lead before the Spaniard, who dropped down from TrialGP this season to ride Honda’s electric model, regained the upper hand to win on nine, one ahead of George and two clear of Harry.

Starting race two looking strong and confident, Gelabert made sure he didn’t incur any maximums second time around and his score of seven gave him victory over Spain’s Arnau Farré (Sherco) – yesterday’s overall winner – by three marks with Harry Hemingway third again on a total of thirteen.

“Yesterday was so hard to deal with because I was riding so well, but had bike issues,” said Gelabert. “Today feels much better now I am leaving America with a double win from today. It’s not over until it’s over and I will fight to the end.”

With just the TrialGP of Great Britain remaining, Hemingway will have home advantage – and a healthy twenty-eight-point championship lead – over Gelabert when the series concludes on 5-7 September at Geddington.

Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa) ha realizzato la prestazione della sua carriera, conquistando la prima vittoria assoluta di giornata, mentre il TrialGP degli Stati Uniti – sesto round del Campionato Mondiale Trial FIM Hertz 2025 – si è concluso con un'altra giornata emozionante alla LeGrand Reynolds Horseman's Area di Exeter, Rhode Island. Berta Abellan (Scorpa) ha rafforzato la sua posizione nella TrialGP Women e Miquel Gelabert (Honda) ha recuperato dopo la doppia delusione di ieri nel Trial2.

Alla sua sesta stagione nella classe regina maschile, la sensazionale vittoria di Marcelli è andata almeno in parte a discapito del suo compagno di squadra e campione in carica Toni Bou che, dopo aver mancato la vittoria assoluta di giornata per la seconda volta in dodici prove in questa stagione, dovrà ora aspettare l'ultimo round – il TrialGP di Gran Bretagna – a inizio settembre prima che il titolo TrialGP venga assegnato.

Con un vantaggio di settantanove punti sul secondo classificato Jaime Busto (GASGAS) e un massimo di ottantadue punti in palio a ogni round, Bou rimane saldamente in testa alla corsa per conquistare il suo diciannovesimo titolo consecutivo.

Reduce dalla sua doppietta di ieri, il trentottenne superstar spagnolo ha iniziato la giornata alla grande, conquistando la vittoria nella gara di apertura. Con la maggior parte degli ostacoli disposti su un pendio boscoso e disseminato di massi, Bou ha preso un cinque sugli imponenti gradini di roccia della terza sezione, ma lo hanno fatto anche tutti gli altri, tranne Marcelli, che ha saltato il passaggio per un singolo tocco, prendendo subito il comando. Bou non ha perso tempo a riprendere il controllo , sebbene il margine di vantaggio sul suo connazionale venticinquenne fosse rimasto di un solo punto. Busto si è classificato terzo con ventiquattro punti, seguito da Jorge Casales (Honda) quarto con trentadue, davanti s Jack Peace (Sherco).

Con condizioni ancora calde e umide, ma con un terreno leggermente più asciutto rispetto al giorno precedente, Marcelli ha poi riscritto la tabella di marcia nella seconda gara, con un totale di otto punti, sufficienti per battere Busto al secondo posto con quattordici, mentre Bou ha concluso la gara con un punteggio di venti.

"Sono al settimo cielo", ha detto Marcelli. "Finalmente ho vinto e sono felicissima. Ieri stavo andando bene, ma commettevo errori e sapevo di poter fare meglio, e oggi ho fatto meglio."

Canales, chiaramente al suo primo assaggio di azione ai vertici in questa stagione, si è assicurato un altro ottimo quarto posto con venticinque, quattro in più del nostro veterano Matteo Grattarola (Beta).

Con la Power Section ancora una volta tracciata sulle rocce e i tronchi che costituivano l'ostacolo finale artificiale, Busto ha conquistato il punto extra in palio dopo essere stato il più veloce per la terza volta in questa stagione.

Cinque volte medaglia d'argento, la doppia vittoria di Abellan nel TrialGP Women sabato l'ha avvicinata a quel titolo sfuggente e domenica è rimasta al comando.

La venticinquenne ha lanciato una sfida alla sua principale rivale per il titolo, Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta), con un totale di soli sei punti nella prima manche, che le ha permesso di guadagnare dieci lunghezze di vantaggio sulla giovane pinerolese, che a sua volta aveva un solo punto di vantaggio sulla ceca Denisa Pechackova (TRRS).

Le britanniche Alice Minta (Beta) e Kaytlyn Adshead (Sherco) si sono date battaglia per tutta la stagione e in questa occasione è stata Minta a mantenere il vantaggio, piazzandosi quarta con diciannove punti, cinque in più di Adshead.

La seconda manche è stata molto più combattuta, ma è stata comunque Abellan a salire sul gradino più alto del podio alla fine della giornata, con un punteggio finale di sette punti, che le ha permesso di guadagnare tre lunghezze di vantaggio sullo spareggio per il secondo posto vinto da Pechackova su Rabino. Minta, quarta in classifica su un totale di quindici, ha avuto la meglio su Adshead per un solo punto.

"È stato un weekend praticamente perfetto per me", ha detto Abellan,"e spero di fare lo stesso [nell'ultima tappa] anche in Gran Bretagna. Sono molto contenta della gara di oggi, del weekend e del feeling che ho in sella."

Rabino ha concluso la gara incassando il punto bonus nella Power Section, ma Abellan ora è in testa con trentadue punti a una sola gara dalla fine e Pechackova ha scavalcato Alessia Bacchetta (GASGAS) e Adshead, portandosi al terzo posto in classifica.

I problemi tecnici si sono rivelati estremamente costosi per Gelabert sabato, quando non è riuscito a conquistare un solo punto con il modello RTL Electric, ma da vero professionista si è lasciato alle spalle i problemi e ha preso il controllo della classe Trial2 domenica.

Sebbene il suo mancato punteggio lo abbia messo in difficoltà nella corsa al titolo, ciò non gli ha impedito di lottare contro il leader del campionato Harry Hemingway (Beta) e i due, insieme al fratello minore del pilota britannico, George, hanno dominato la gara di apertura.

Un cinque nella sesta sezione di Gelabert ha consegnato al diciassettenne George la testa della classifica prima che lo spagnolo, che questa stagione ha abbandonato il TrialGP per guidare il modello elettrico della Honda, riprendesse il sopravvento e vincesse con nove, uno in meno di George e due di vantaggio su Harry.

Iniziando gara due forte e sicuro, Gelabert si è assicurato di non incorrere in alcun cinque al secondo giro e il suo punteggio di sette gli ha permesso di vincere sullo spagnolo Arnau Farré (Sherco) – vincitore assoluto di ieri – con tre punti di vantaggio, mentre Harry Hemingway è arrivato terzo con un totale di tredici.

"Ieri è stata dura da gestire perché stavo guidando molto bene, ma ho avuto problemi con la moto", ha detto Gelabert."Oggi mi sento molto meglio ora che lascio l'America con una doppia vittoria. Non è finita finché non è finita e combatterò fino alla fine".

Con solo il TrialGP di Gran Bretagna ancora da disputare, Hemingway avrà il vantaggio di giocare in casa – e un solido vantaggio di ventotto punti in campionato – su Gelabert quando la serie si concluderà il 5-7 settembre a Geddington.
