18/05/25 - BOU AND ABELLAN TOPPED EVEN DAY2 IN JAPAN

The sublime Spanish duo of Toni Bou (Montesa) and Berta Abellan (Scorpa) signed off from the Taisei Rotec TrialGP of Japan – round three of the 2025 Hertz FIM Trial World Championship – with perfect scores in the elite TrialGP and TrialGP Women categories on day two as Britain’s talented teenager Harry Hemingway (Beta)extended his lead in Trial2.

With a pair of hard-earned race wins apiece from Sunday’s main programme already in the bag, both Bou and Abellan arrived at the event-ending Power Section – back in play after bad weather caused its cancellation yesterday – with forty-point maximums and both skipped their way to an extra bonus point just to underline their dominance at the Mobility Resort Motegi.

With Saturday’s heavy rain giving way to much more favourable weather that helped draw a sizeable crowd of almost five-thousand spectators, conditions were better today – although tacky mud meant grip was still at a premium up the steep bankings and over the smooth, imposing rocks that comprised many of the sections and scores were high.

On a roll from his pair of race wins the day before, thirty-eight-year-old Bou seized an immediate lead in the opening race when he was the only rider to make it to the end of section one and, after the entire field failed section two, a sensational single dab on three – where all his rivals incurred their third consecutive maximums – gave him a lead he never looked likely to relinquish.

After finishing second twice yesterday, Jaime Busto (GASGAS) pushed the reigning champion hard in the mid-section of the race, but his eventual total of forty-three was eight behind his compatriot and just one ahead of third-placed Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa).

Picking up their close rivalry where they left off yesterday, Aniol Gelabert (TRRS) and Italy’s Matteo Grattarola (Beta) ended the first race of the day locked together on fifty-one, with the Spaniard taking fourth beeing faster, having had both same number of cleans,dabs,etc.

Race two was a very similar story with Bou establishing an early lead before posting a winning total of twenty-six, but this time his team-mate Marcelli was going head-to-head with Busto and an inch-perfect ride on the tenth section – where Busto incurred a maximum – gave Marcelli second by a solitary mark on thirty-seven.

“I have enjoyed the races today,” said Bou. “It is an amazing country with amazing fans and I am very happy to win as it is very important for the championship.”

Even on high-scoring days the TrialGP class remains incredibly competitive and, after coming close yesterday, British class newcomer Jack Peace (Sherco) claimed a career-best fourth when he won a three-way tie-break with Frenchman Hugo Dufrese (Beta) and Grattarola on a total of forty-seven.

In TrialGP Women, five-time championship runner-up Abellan remains on course to take her first title and after tasting defeat at the hands of Italian rival Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) in Saturday’s opening race she started today looking determined.

Rabino seized the early advantage, midway through the lap Abellan drew level and she then extended her lead far enough that even a three on the final section where eighteen-year-old Rabino needed a dab gave her victory by a single mark on nineteen.

Highlighting the pair’s current dominance, third-placed Alessia Bacchetta (GASGAS) from Italy finished the race on thirty-three, one ahead of Britain’s Alice Minta (Beta) and three clear of Kaytlyn Adshead (Sherco).

Abellan strengthened her hold on the class in race two with the twenty-five-year-old leading from the get-go before opening up a ten-mark advantage over Rabino to win on twenty-one with Adshead taking third on thirty-four, one ahead of a tie-break for fourth won by Minta from French rider Alycia Soyer (TRRS).

“Today I am very happy,” said Abellan. “I love Japan and to win both races here today and strengthen my championship lead feels very special.”

Competitors in the TrialGP and TrialGP Women classes then pitted themselves against the terrain and the clock with an additional championship point on the line in the Power Section. Last to go in TrialGP Women, Abellan skipped her way through to win from Adshead before Bou took an audacious, untried line with a dramatic jump between two rocks seeing him take victory by almost two seconds from Busto.

Trial2 is traditionally close and competitive and today’s action continued this trend with Britain’s Billy Green (Scorpa), the champion in 2023, taking victory in the opening race with his total of thirty-four leaving him a single mark ahead of championship leader Hemingway who beat Miquel Gelabert (Honda) into third by one clean more.

Hemingway returned to the top in race two with a score of twenty and with French rider Benoit Bincaz (Electric Motion) dropping twenty-two to push Green into third by a mark, the nineteen-year-old former Trial3 champion further extended his title lead.

“I’m absolutely over the moon,” said Hemingway. “Japan has always been a tricky round for me and I have never really got my head around it so I’m buzzing to leave here with the championship lead.”

The 2025 Hertz FIM Trial World Championship now takes a two-week break before reconvening with the TrialGP of France that will be staged at Calvi on the Mediterranean island of Corsica, running from 30 May to 1 June.

BOU E ABELLAN SVETTANO ANCHE NEL SECONDO GIORNO

Il fantasctico duo spagnolo composto da Toni Bou (Montesa) e Berta Abellan (Scorpa) ha concluso il Taisei Rotec TrialGP del Giappone, terzo round del Campionato Mondiale Trial Hertz FIM 2025, con punteggi perfetti nelle categorie élite TrialGP e TrialGP Women nel secondo giorno, mentre il talentuoso adolescente britannico Harry Hemingway (Beta) ha ampliato il suo vantaggio nel Trial2.

Con due vittorie a testa conquistate a fatica nel programma principale di domenica già in tasca, sia Bou che Abellan sono arrivati ??alla Power Section, la gara conclusiva dell'evento, tornata in gioco dopo la cancellazione di ieri a causa del maltempo, con un massimo di quaranta punti, ed entrambi hanno ottenuto un punto bonus extra solo per sottolineare il loro dominio al Mobility Resort Motegi.

La forte pioggia di sabato ha lasciato il posto a condizioni meteo molto più favorevoli che hanno contribuito ad attirare una folla considerevole di quasi cinquemila spettatori, Seppur le condizioni fossero migliori oggi, il fango appiccicoso ha reso l'aderenza ancora scarsa sui ripidi terrapieni e sulle rocce lisce e imponenti che costituivano molte sezioni, e i punteggi sono stati alti.

Forte delle due vittorie del giorno prima, il trentottenne Bou ha preso subito il comando nella gara di apertura, essendo l'unico corridore ad arrivare alla fine della prima sezione e, dopo che l'intero gruppo non aveva superato la seconda, un singolo tocco sensazionale alla terza – dove tutti i suoi rivali hanno ottenuto il loro terzo cinque consecutivo – gli ha dato un vantaggio che non sembrava destinato a perdere.

Dopo essere arrivato secondo due volte ieri, Jaime Busto (GASGAS) ha messo a dura prova il campione in carica nella parte centrale della gara, ma il suo totale di quarantatré è stato di punti dietro al connazionale e di uno solo davanti al terzo classificato Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa).

Riprendendo la loro serrata rivalità da dove si erano interrotti ieri, Aniol Gelabert (TRRS) e Matteo Grattarola (Beta) hanno concluso la prima gara della giornata appaiati a quota cinquantuno, pari in tutto, con lo spagnolo quarto grazie a 40 secondi in meno.

Gara due è stata una storia molto simile, con Bou che ha preso subito il comando prima di segnare un totale vincente di ventisei, ma questa volta il suo compagno di squadra Marcelli si è trovato a lottare più da vicino con Busto. La zona 10 è risultata decisiva: un cinque per Busto ha dato il via a Marcelli per la piazza d'onore.

"Mi sono divertito molto nella gare di oggi", ha detto Bou. "È un Paese incredibile con tifosi fantastici e sono molto felice di vincere, perché è molto importante per il campionato".

Dopo essere andato vicino ieri, il debuttante britannico Jack Peace (Sherco) ha conquistato il suo miglior quarto posto in carriera, vincendo uno spareggio a tre con il francese Hugo Dufrese (Beta) e Grattarola, per un totale di quarantasette.

Nella TrialGP femminile, la cinque volte seconda classificata Abellan è più che in corsa per conquistare il suo primo titolo e, dopo la sconfitta per mano della rivale Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta) nella gara di apertura di sabato, ha iniziato la gara con determinazione.

Rabino aveva guadagnato il vantaggio iniziale, a metà giro Abellan ha raggiunto la prima posizione e ha poi ampliato il suo vantaggio a tal punto che persino un tre punti nell'ultima sezione, dove la diciottenne Rabino aveva bisogno di un piede, le ha regalato la vittoria di un solo punto a diciannove.

A sottolineare l'attuale dominio della coppia, Alessia Bacchetta (GASGAS), terza classificata, ha concluso la gara con trentatré punti, uno in più la britannica Alice Minta (Beta) e tre in più Kaytlyn Adshead (Sherco).

Abellan ha rafforzato la sua posizione nella classe in gara due, in testa fin dall'inizio e accumulando un vantaggio di dieci punti su Rabino. per vincere a ventuno, con Adshead terza a trentaquattro, uno in meno di un tie-break per il quarto posto vinto da Minta sulla francese Alycia Soyer (TRRS).

"Oggi sono molto felice", ha detto Abellan. "Amo il Giappone e vincere entrambe le gare qui oggi e rafforzare il mio vantaggio in campionato è davvero speciale."

I concorrenti delle categorie TrialGP e TrialGP Women si sono poi misurati con il terreno e il tempo, con in palio un ulteriore punto per il campionato nella Power Section. Ultima a scendere in campo nel TrialGP femminile, Abellan si è fatta strada fino a vincere davanti ad Adshead, prima che Bou scegliesse una linea audace e inedita con un salto spettacolare tra due rocce, aggiudicandosi la vittoria con quasi due secondi di vantaggio su Busto.

Il Trial2 è tradizionalmente serrato e competitivo e l'azione di oggi ha confermato questa tendenza con il britannico Billy Green (Scorpa), campione nel 2023, che ha vinto la gara di apertura con un totale di trentaquattro punti, staccando di un solo punto il leader del campionato Hemingway, che ha battuto Miquel Gelabert (Honda) al terzo posto grazie a uno zero in più.

Hemingway è tornato in testa in gara due con un punteggio di venti. Il pilota francese Benoit Bincaz (Electric Motion) ha perso ventidue punti, e ha spinto Green al terzo posto di un punto. Il diciannovenne ex campione del Trial3 ha ulteriormente ampliato il suo vantaggio nel titolo.

"Sono assolutamente al settimo cielo", ha detto Hemingway. "Il Giappone è sempre stato un round difficile per me e non ho mai veramente capito come affrontarlo, quindi sono molto felice di partire da qui in testa alla classifica."

Il Campionato Mondiale Trial FIM Hertz 2025 si prende ora una pausa di due settimane prima di riprendere con il TrialGP di Francia, che si svolgerà a Calvi, in Corsica, dal 30 maggio al 1° giugno.
