24/03/26 - Snow on the first of the TATA 2026 in Barge (CN)

The ASI Antique Trial Trophy (TATA) in Barge, Piedmont, started in the snow, at least for the second day of the competition. Two days of contrasting weather conditions: sunny on Saturday, pouring rain on Sunday, and, along the upper section of the course, even snow!

The supporters of the Vintage Trials sector were not deterred, completing both days, especially because the members of the Infernotto Motorcycle Club were able to designate sections perfectly suited to the two different conditions.

A few small adjustments, alerted by the weather forecast, agreed upon with expert Alberto De Biasio of the TATA Committee on the eve of the predicted bad weather, and the race day was largely saved.

Not all of Saturday's starters felt like risking their health, because, in addition to rain and snow, the temperature dropped dramatically and the average age of those who enjoy this style of riding is quite high.

But the first day's exploits, with 65 vintage motorcycles on the starting line — an all-time record for the Trophy at the first race of the season — ore than made up for the reduction on Sunday, allowing those who worked hard to make the event a success to reap the rewards.

Indeed, the sacrifices of the motorcycle clubs that organize races, ranging from obtaining permits, setting up the course, and finding judges—the true heroes of Sunday—are simply rewarded by the participants' approval, and if they happen to be as unanimous as on this occasion, the entire atmosphere is radiant.

As per the regulations, two laps of 10 sections were held, with the impeccable compilation of results by expert Roberto Cavaglià, always a feather in the cap for those who hire him for this important task.

In addition to the vintage motorcycles, just over a dozen riders on modern bikes, mostly very young people from the local motorcycle club, provided the backdrop.

Among these, a couple from Turin, competing only on Saturday, asked us if they were allowed to participate in the other Trophy races, precisely because this type of sections, with wide curves and space to negotiate the rocks, was particularly to their liking: an attention to detail that is hard to find in other races as Modern trials, they commented.

Unfortunately, a trivial accident involving a top-level rider, Giorgio Gianni, who fell and broke his collarbone, reminded us that, while we can take every care to choose safe obstacles, we cannot fight fate.

To the unfortunate rider – who was scheduled to make his debut in the Italian TR4 Championship next weekend – we wish him a peaceful and patient recovery and a speedy return to form.

The Vintage Trial Circus will meet in Piantedo, Lombardy, on May 23rd and 24th for the third and fourth rounds.

Don't pay attention to the bike year in the results: it's not correct, but simply a solution found by those who compiled them to then divide them by category.

Neve sulla prima del TATA 2026 a Barge (CN)

Partenza sotto la neve per il Trofeo ASI Trial Antico (TATA) in quel di Barge in Piemonte, almeno per il secondo giorno di gara. Due giornate con condizioni meteo opposte. Al sabato sole, alla domenica pioggia battente e, nel tratto alto del percorso, addirittura neve!

Non si sono spaventati i sostenitori del settore Trial d'epoca che hanno portato a termine entrambi i giorni, soprattutto perchè i soci del Moto Club Infernotto sono stati capaci di tracciare delle zone perfettamente adatte alle due differenti situazioni.

Qualche piccola correzione, allertati dalla previsioni climatiche, concordata con l'esperto Alberto De Biasio del Comitato TATA, già alla vigilia del preannunciato maltempo ed ecco che la giornata di gara si è ampiamente salvata.

Non tutti i partenti di sabato se la sono sentita di mettere a repentaglio la propria salute, perchè, oltre a pioggia e neve, le temperatura è scesa vertiginosamente e l'età media di chi ama questo stile di guida è piuttosto alta.

Ma l'exploit del primo giorno con al via ben 65 moto d'epoca, record assoluto del Trofeo alla prima gara della stagione, ha compensato ampiamente la riduzione avvenuta alla domenica, permettendo a chi ha lavorato sodo per la riuscita della manifestazione di goderne i frutti.

Infatti, i sacrifici dei moto club che organizzano gare, che spaziano dall'ottenere i permessi, allestire il percorso, reperire i giudici – veri eroi della giornata di domenica – sono semplicemente gratificati dei consensi dei partecipanti e se capita di essere unanimi come in quest'occasione, tutto l'ambiente è raggiante.

Come da regolamento due giri di 10 zone, con l'impeccabile compilazione classifiche dell'esperto Roberto Cavaglià, sempre fiore all'occhiello per chi lo ingaggia in questo importante compito.

Oltre alle moto d'epoca, poco più di una decina di piloti con quelle moderne, per lo più giovanissimi del moto club locale, hanno fatto da cornice.

Di questi una coppia di Torino, in gara solo sabato, ci hanno chiesto se anche alle altre gare del Trofeo era permesso loro di partecipare, proprio perchè questo modo di tracciare, con ampie curve e spazi per superare le pietre è stato particolarmente di loro gradimento: un'attenzione introvabile nei Trial moderni, hanno commentato.

Purtroppo un banale incidente a un pilota del livello più alto, Giorgio Gianni, caduta e rottura clavicola ci ha ricordato che, sebbene si possano fare tutte la attenzioni per scegliere ostacoli non pericolosi, non si può combattere la fatalità.

Allo sfortunato pilota – che aveva in programma l'esordio nel Campionato Italiano in TR4 nel prossimo week-end – gli auguri di una serena e paziente convalescenza per tornare in forma al più presto.

Il Circus del Trial d'epoca si dà appuntamento in Lombardia, a Piantedo per il 23 e 24 maggio prossimo per la terza e quarta prova.

Sulle classifiche non fate caso all'anno moto: non è corretto ma solo una soluzione trovata da chi le ha redatte per dividerle poi per categoria.
